JALUR PENELITIAN
Program Studi Magister Biologi (S2), mempunyai dua jalur program, yaitu Jalur Perkuliahan dan Jalur Penelitian. Untuk Profil Lulusan, Tujuan Pendidikan, Capaian Pembelajaran Lulusan (CPL) dan Pemusatan Program Studi Magister Biologi kedua Jalur program ini adalah sama. Perbedaannya terletak pada kurikulum dan penyebaran mata kuliah persemesternya. Kemudian Perbedaan yang lainnya adalah lama studi pada program jalur perkuliahnya dengan lama studi empat semester sendangkan pada program jalur penelitian selama tiga semester.

Capaian Pembelajaran Lulusan (CPL) Program Studi Program Doktor Biologi adalah sebagai berikut:
CPL1: Mampu menyusun landasan ontologis, epistemologis dan aksiologis pada filsafah biologi.
CPL2: Mampu menemukan state of the art (terkini) teori dan konsep biosistematik, evolusi, ekologi, konservasi, dan pengembangan biodiversitas secara terintegrasi.
CPL3: Mampu menemukan kebaharuan dalam biosistematik, evolusi, ekologi, konservasi yang memberikan kontribusi baru pada pengembangan biodiversitas.

IV. METODE PEMBELAJARAN
Metode pembelajaran yang digunakan adalah cooperative learning, case based learning/project-based learning, self-directed learning dan discovery learning. Tabel di bawah ini memperlihatkan mata kuliah wajib menggunakan cooperative learning dan mata kuliah pemusatan gabungan cooperative learning dan problem based learning. Pada mata kuliah pelengkap menggunakan tutorial. Pada mata kuliah pilihan juga sebagian menggabungkan cooperative learning, case based learning dan self-directed learning. Tugas akhir menggunakan metode self-directed learning dan discovery learning.

2. Jalur Penelitian

1. Reputasi Internasional diartikan sebagai hasil capaian penelitian yang dipublikasikan pada jurnal internasional bereputasi dan disitasi oleh peneliti lainnya.
2. Kebaharuan pengembangan biodiversitas diartikan sebagai temuan baru dari hasil hasil penelitian yang menghasilkan teori dan konsep.

Untuk mewujudkan visi dan melaksanakan misi tersebut di atas, tujuan strategis (strategic goals) Prodi S2 Biologi FMIPA UNAND telah ditetapkan untuk masing-masing misi. Dari keempat misi telah ditetapkan empat tujuan strategis sebagai berikut:
Sasaran Program Studi :
Berdasarkan visi, misi dan tujuan maka disusun sasaran dan strategi pencapaian yang dituangkan dalam Renstra Prodi S2 Biologi FMIPA UNAND 2016-2019 (Revisi), seperti terlampir dalam Borang 3A. Renstra Prodi S2 Biologi FMIPA UNAND 2016-2019 (Revisi) ini merupakan rangkaian kedua dari Renstra Jangka Panjang Prodi S2 Biologi UNAND dari tahun 2009 sampai 2028.

VISION
"To become an excellent study program in studying and developing biodiversity and conservation of tropical biological resources and producing competitive graduates at the international level by 2028."

“Menjadi Program Studi yang unggul dalam mengkaji dan mengembangkan biodiversitas dan konservasi sumberdaya hayati tropika serta menghasilkan lulusan yang berdayasaing di tingkat Internasional pada tahun 2028”.

In line with the mission set by the university and faculty, the Biology Study Program sets five missions as follows:

Berdasarkan visi dan misi yang telah dirumuskan, maka tujuan strategis (strategic goals) FMIPA jangka menengah, dirumuskan sebagai berikut:
TARGETS
The targets of the Biology Study Program are formulated based on the Medium-Term Strategic Plan of the Biology Study Program 2016-2019 (Revision), which is the second series of the long-term plan of the Biology Study Program from 2009 to 2028. The milestones of the long-term achievements of the Biology Study Program are as follows:
SASARAN
Sasaran PS S1 Biologi disusun berdasarkan Rencana Strategis Jangka Menengah Prodi Biologi 2016-2019 (Revisi), yang merupakan rangkaian kedua dari rencana jangka panjang Prodi Biologi dari tahun 2009 sampai 2028.
